Swimming Boss Seeks For Support
Nigeria Swimming Federation, NSF, president, Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, has called on the state governments of the federation to urgently come to the aid of swimming in the country, saying that if the game is adequately developed the countryhas the potential to rule the world.
Fatayi-Williams said there is need for the state governments to compliment the effort of the federation to take the game to the greater heights in the country.
He added that the nation is blessed with abundance talents to excel but the environment is not conducive for the swimmers to exhibit their talents and become stars.
“There is need for some state governments to support this beautiful game. We have talents but need to create a conducive atmosphere for them to triumph. Some states have comparative advantage over other states because of the availability of natural swimmers in the states. The swimmers only need to be groomed and given standard facilities to exploit,†he said.
Fatayi-Williams stressed that even though many sport federations including swimming have been concessioned, “Getting sponsorship for training programme is far more arduous than getting same for competitions. European countries as well as countries like the United States, Australia among others, invest heavily in training programmes and this is largely with the government subsidy that comes in,†he added.
