UI Offers Scholarship To First Class Graduands

The University of Ibadan (UI) commenced its four-day graduation activities today by offering first class graduands automatic scholarship to pursue postgraduate programmes of their choice in the university.

Announcing this, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, VC, Professor Isaac Adewole, said that the scholarship was offered to encourage hard work in the academia.

In his welcome address, the 11th Vice Chancellor said graduands have great challenges of making productive use of the skills and knowledge acquired and should not forget to assist the university in whatever ways they can as they journey through life.

Out of 7,073 students graduating from the institution this year, the VC disclosed that 1,647 candidates graduated from the faculties of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Science, Clinical Science, Pharmacy, Public Health, Technology and Law.

“We are happy to advertise and celebrate the performance of our students at the last examination of the Nigerian Law School. I am happy to announce that two of the four students with First Class Honours also made First Class Honours at the last Law School examination. Invariably, our students repeated the same feat they achieved here at the Law School.”

He commended the maturity of the recently restored Students’ Union Government on how it handled issues, pointing out that the union has never disappointed the institution.

He lauded the union for peacefully demonstrating against epileptic power supply in the country, adding, “rather than destroying public property, they protected them during the protest.”

The convocation ceremony will end on Thursday.
