3SC Need Money To Survive; Amoo Cries Out
Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, escaped relegation for the second straight season with coach Fatai Amoo insisting that the once all-conquering team can only be great again if money is made available to the club.
“My plans for next year depend on the club management. We must have what we can use to recruit new players,†said Amoo.
“We struggled for most part of the season and I don’t wish to be a part of a struggling team any more.
“We saw a number of good players in the clubs relegated but you would need what you can bargain with these players and it is only the management that can make this possible.â€
On Sunday, the Ibadan club laboured to a 1-0 home win against Lobi Stars to ensure they stay put in the Nigerian top flight.
‘The Oluyole Warriors’ finished just three points from the relegation pack of Plateau United, Zamfara United, Crown FC and JUTH FC.
This is in sharp contrast to the glory days of old when Shooting Stars held sway both at home and abroad.
Then known as IICC Shooting Stars, they were the first Nigerian club to win a major African competition, the Africa Cup Winners Cup, in 1976.
They have won the Nigerian league five times with their last triumph being in 1998 and they also clinched the country’s FA Cup four times.
