Ex-Ogun Deputy Speaker Robbed, Wife Injured

A gang of seven armed robbers yesterday invaded  the residence of former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Barrister Edward Ayo Odugbesan at G.R.A., Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta for several hours.

The daredevil robbers, according to Odugbesan, injured his wife and carted away goods worth millions of naira.

The former lawmaker disclosed that the robbers attacked his flat and three others between  9 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi described it as unfortunate, saying the police were not informed on time about the robbery.

According to Adejobi: “I have been to the scene of the incident. Unfortunately, while the operation was going on, the police were not informed. The victims said they were locked-up in a room and police are not spirits to know this.”

Odugbesan, a member of the G-9 legislators loyal to the former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel claimed that his flat and that of his three neighbours were attacked by the robbers who came with dangerous weapons.

He said he was lucky  to be away during the operation, but his wife was seriously injured and has been hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Odugbesan disclosed further that 10 laptops, 10 wrist watches and money were carted away by the robbers, adding that one of  his neighbours who was preparing to travel abroad was dispossessed of his passport and foreign currencies.

The PPRO also confirmed that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nicholas Nkedeme, has ordered investigation into the attacks. He added that some suspects had already been interrogated on the incident.
