The Oyo State government has promised to supply water and electricity to the Yemetu Teaching Hospital and the new hospital on new Ring Road in Ibadan within one week.

Commissioner for Information, Mr. Bosun Oladele, told newsmen yesterday in Ibadan after the state’s Executive Council meeting, that the two hospitals were given priority because of the increase in the number of patients patronising the facilities.

He said government was concerned that inadequate water and electricity supply to the hospitals had affected efficient health care delivery, especially in surgical operations.

Government, he added, would also supply water and electricity to other health institutions in the state in due course.

Oladele said the council also approved contracts for the reconstruction of 50 roads spread across the six zones of the state.

He said nine of the roads were located in Ibadan zone, adding that they would facilitate easy transportation when completed.

Oladele said government had embarked on the construction of modern motor parks in the state and that the Education ministry had ordered the commencement of extension classes for all senior secondary school students.

The commissioner explained that the extra lessons would prepare the students for the unified mock examinations to be conducted by the ministry to ensure good performance in the 2012 WAEC/NECO examinations.

Government, he added, was committed to paying the salaries of its workers on the 25th of every month through the e-payment system.

He advised all workers to open functional bank accounts to complement the efforts of the Ministry of Finance in ensuring prompt payment of salaries.
