Twenty-year year-old ex-convict Segun Ojo is to spend the next six months in prison for house breaking and theft.

A magistrate in Ilorin, Mr. Ibrahim Dasuki convicted Ojo on Wednesday after he had pleaded guilty to a three-count-charge of trespass, house breaking and theft.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the charges contravened sections 348, 356 and 287 of the Penal Code.

Ojo had earlier been convicted by the same court in May for a similar offence.

Sgt. Jubril Alhassan, police prosecutor had earlier told the court that the convict broke into one Raphael Bello’s apartment on Sunday when Bello was in the church.

According to the prosecutor, Bello apprehended Ojo in his house after gaining access through the ceiling of his room.

He told the court that police investigation revealed that the convict had no means of livelihood or a a fixed address; and that he ‘truly’ committed the offence.

The convict pleaded for leniency, pledging to return to his home town in Kogi and never to come back to Ilorin.

The magistrate said but for his concern that the convict might become a hardened criminal if he stays for too long in the prison , he would have sentenced him to three years.
