Group Threatens To Drag Council Boss Before Anti Graft Agencies
Remo Think-Tank Forum (Re-think), a group in Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun state, has threatened to drag the Chairman of Remo North Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Adebiyi Adeleye before the anti-graft agencies for allegedly spending N25m to rehabilitate 12 classroom blocks and fencing of a public primary school.
In a statement titled: “How our Caretaker Chairman expends N25m on 12-classroom block and fenceâ€, and signed by Mr. Soyemi Osho, copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Abeokuta, the group affirmed that it would not hesitate to formally petition the anti-corruption agencies if the committee under Adeleye refuses to present true account of the expenditure in two weeks time.
According to RETHINK, “after our meeting at Ode- Remo on Sunday, we are constrained to issue this warning to the Adeleye-led Caretaker Committee of our dear council to immediately present the true account of the expenditure on the renovation of the primary school at Isara.
“As a body established with the sole aim of ensuring good governance amongst others, we are shock to have it on record that the Adeleye-led Committee spent a whopping sum of N25m on the renovation of the 12-block classroom and the fencing of the primary school.â€
The group noted with dismay that the project in question was an old police station building’, with absolutely nothing done on the ground apart from removing the roof and extending the rooms. So, where and how a whopping sum of N25m came about was an insult to the good people of Remo North council area.â€
The group, Osho affirmed, had carried out a detail estimation of the project, “and we have it on good authority that it ought not to have cost more that N8m with the fencing aspect. So, what happens to the remaining N17m. We cannot to continue to encourage corruption in Remo-North Local Government of Ogun State.”
Osho noted further that the group was “constrained to inform that the period of Adeleye-led Committee has brought woes rather than happiness to the people of Remo North local government. Apart from his maladministration, his total neglect of elders’ opinion and other stakeholders had become a source of concern to all.
“We had thought that his days are numbered (since we are fortunate that he was not elected, but appointed for just a period of time) but the recent extension given to the 20 local governments in the state however became imperative for us to raise this alarm of further reckless and criminal leeway for Adeleye and his team.
“As we are not out to tarnish the image and reputation of any individual or group for no just cause, an extensive research on the performance of Adeleye left us convinced that Adeleye-led Committee should be reported to the anti-corruption bodies for prompt action.â€
Efforts by our correspondent this morning to get Adeleye to comment o the allegations roved abortive as his line was switched off.
