Reps Member Tasks Yewa-Awori Group On Unity
Chairman, House Committee on States and Local Governments in the House of Representatives, Rasak Adewusi, has advised the people of Ogun West to shun the pull-him-down syndrome so that the area could move forward.
Adewusi made the appeal recently, when members of the Yewa-Awori Concerned Professionals (YACP), paid him a courtesy visit at his Yewa Plaza, Lalubu-Ibara, Abeokuta.
He lamented that over the years, the people of Yewa-Awori have been enmeshed in the attitude of destroying themselves because of inborn contention that characterised disunity among them.
“My people should shun the idea of bringing ourselves down and this militates against steady progress in the area. We should all see ourselves as brothers and sisters and work together with one mind to lift up Ogun West,†Adewusi stated.
The three-time member of the National Assembly posited that Yewa-Awori people, as in the past, missed the opportunity to clinch the exalted seat at the last 2011 governorship election as a result of self aggrandisement.
“While the Egba people present a candidate from their area for the election, Ogun West presented two candidates and this lack of understanding in the political game plan of the other senatorial districts of the state cost Yewa-Awori the opportunity to become the governor of the state at the last poll,†Adewusi noted.
He, however, called on members of YACP to use their experience as professionals to unite the people of the area so that they could be able to speak with one voice on every issue that affects their development.
Adewusi, who is representing Imeko-Afon and Yewa North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, called for unity among Yewa-Awori leaders, urging them embrace the young as coming leaders for the advancement of the area.
Earlier at a different forum, members of YACP have been advised to always embark on programmes that will touch the lives of the people of the area.
Otunba Ireti Oniyide, a two-time governorship aspirant in Ogun State, gave the advice when the group paid a Sallah visit to Elhadj Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, who is in charge of the group’s spokesperson, at his Ilaro residence.
Oniyide noted that Ogun West has been underdeveloped since the creation of the state in 1976, adding that as people who have travelled far and wide, YACP members should be proactive towards using their voice to attract projects like good roads, improvement on education, health, agriculture and housing, among other infrastructures to Ogun West.
He, however, called on the youths of the area to always engage in meaningful activities and desist from whatever may deny them from achieving their future, adding that they should be honest and transparent in whatever they do.
Earlier in his speech, the National President of YACP, Mr. Biodun Akinde, disclosed that the group was formed on the platform of friendship to promote unity, peace, harmony and development in Ogun West in particular and Ogun State in general.
