Seven Suspected Car Thieves Nabbed
Men of the Lagos State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, have arrested seven men suspected to be car snatchers.
The suspects were arrested along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
One of the suspects was nabbed in Lagos when he allegedly wanted to sell a blackberry phone that was stolen with a Toyota Highlander.
He said: “I was introduced into robbery by my boss, a painter who usually helps us to sell anything that we recover from stolen vehicles.â€
A police source said the blackberry phone that was in the car when it was stolen was tracked and the holder was traced and arrested. He was said to have been asked to call and inform his business colleagues that he has a car to sell. The suspects were said to have gathered and waited for him to bring the car unknown to them that he has been arrested by men of SARS.
The suspect allegedly confessed that it is one of his colleagues that usually snatches cars in Lagos and brings them to an alhaji who sells them in Togo and Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The alhaji said another alhaji was “my business partner and also a close friend of mine,†adding that “he usually brings different kinds of cars to my apartment in Ilorin, Kwara State.â€
Meanwhile, one of the two suspects who were on the run was later arrested in Lagos in a woman herbalist’s house where he had gone to seek spiritual powers.
Unluckily for him, his wife was arrested in Ilorin and she disclosed her husband’s whereabouts. He was trailed by men of the Lagos State Police Command SARS led by S.P. Abba Kyari who eventually arrested him with two of his gang members.
Their arrest led to the nabbing of the remaining suspects.
