Melidion FC Had Good Outing In Tella Cup

Melidion Academy  recently participated in the  U-17 Tella Cup held in Ogun State. The team won the tournament but had a bad outing at the South West U-17 Tella Cup played  in Ibadan. The Team Manger of  the academy, Peter Obikwelu spoke with SUNDAY  AKINTOYE about his experience at the championship.

Q:Your team won the U-17 Late Yemi Tella Cup held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, how was your experience at the tournament?
It was a mixed feelings for my team. When we arrived Abeokuta, we had accommodation problem before we finally settled down. But we are happy  we won the championship.

Was the competition tough for your team?
We won all our matches  played at the Muda Lawal Stadium, Abeokuta. We defeated BBC Academy of Ijebu-Ode, who were the defending champions  of the tournament, 3-2 at the regulation time.

How was the final encounter?
We saw hell in the final. Our opponents had strong  support. The spectators saw my team as a Lagos team and  did everything they could  to frustrate us. But we thank God that we came out victorious at the end of the day.

How would you rate the competition from the beginning to the final stage?
Apart from the accommodation problem we had at the initial stage, the organisation of the competition was good. All the participating teams played good football but the better side won the trophy.

Your team represented Ogun State in the South West U-17 Tella Cup in Ibadan, but had a bad outing,  what is your reaction to this?
It was a bad outing for us because we managed to win a match and lost two matches in Ibadan.

We lost because other teams from Southwest states paraded over aged players to play against us and   the  players were tired. T hey did not have enough time to rest before travelling to Ibadan for the tourney

Where do you see your  club in the nearest future?
I see the club producing world class players that would bring laurels to this country. I see my club in a better condition than this.
