Former Chairman of the Sports Committee of Lagos State House of Assembly, Babatunde Ayeni, has warned Sports Officers of the 57 local councils in the state not to register mercenaries in this year’s Lagos State Speaker’s Cup.
He said the disciplinary committee will not condone the use of ineligible players for the championship, warning that any council found guilty of such act will be penalised.
“Any council football team that violates the rules and regulations of the tournament will be penalised. Any team that register or use mercenaries will not only be fined but face severe sanctions,”he said.
Winners will get N750,000, second and third place teams will get N500,000 and N350,000 respectively.
Ayeni said the purpose of Speaker’s Cup is to keep the youth busy and productive.
