Oando Games Begin At Apapa Club

The maiden Oando Games will get underway at the Apapa Club, Lagos from tomorrow.

To give sponsors the  benefit to support  The Apapa Club, its new Management Committee has dedicated one week of the year for games and sports in  the championship tagged Oando Games, The Apapa Club

The Management Committee with this approach is repositioning the club for more corporate sponsorship and will be a motivator for all sponsors with interest in Apapa – oil and gas, ports and cargo handling and the banking sector.

P.M.Sports gathered that the Oando Games will encourage members to participate more in sporting activities which will invariably improve their  health.

The games will be for all sections of the club and for members only. It will be a preparatory and selection platform for the Quadrangular Games  organised every year.

The sections of the club include: lawn tennis, squash, table tennis, darts and cads bar. The games will be staged in two formats to encourage team work and individual talents. Sectional games are scheduled to begin from 21- 24 November.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Meka Olowola, Head, Corporate Communications, Oando Plc, said: “We are delighted to support The Apapa Club as Apapa community is key to our business operations by virtue of its location  and our strategic assets. As a responsible corporate citizen, this gesture is a demonstration of our commitment to giving back through sports for the people.

Sports is a unifying factor in any community, state or nation and our believe is that Oando Games, The Apapa Club, will encourage healthy competition and foster unity not just for people living in Apapa and its environs, but Lagos State in general”.

For the President of The Apapa Club, Lagos, Dr. Pius Ofulue, the overall objective of expanding the scope of this year‘s Games is to galvanise the sections. “It is a family game and the Management Committee believes that the involvement of all the sections of the club will foster unity and promote team spirit among members,” he said.

While expressing its appreciation to Oando for its support,  Dr. Ofulue  the sponsor has  indeed reinforced its commitment to good causes. He assured Oando that the Management  Committee will continue to improve and increase the scope of the Games in the future.

Dozie Udeze, Games and Sports secretary of the club ,said that events will start from tomorrow with aerobics , health walks and American tournament in two-team formats  for all sections including lawn tennis, squash, table tennis, dart, snooker/billiard, scrabble, chess and Ayo.

The closing ceremony will be held on 25 November with award & gift presentations as well as selection of participants for 2012 Quadrangular Games.
