Amputee Nations Cup: Nigeria To Play Liberia, Niger In Group B
Nigeria’s amputee national team have been grouped alongside Liberia, Niger and Angola in Group B in the Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF), which gets underway in Accra, Ghana. It will end on Saturday, 26 November.
In Group A are Ghana, the hosts, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Kenya.
P.M.Sports gathered that two teams will qualify for the next stage from each group at the end of the preliminary matches.
Francis Adjetey Sowah, President of Ghana Amputee Football Association, said the organisers are expecting Niger, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Kenya and Niger, by Sunday, while Liberia have arrived for the tourney.
Ghana’s Black Challenge would open the competition against Sierra Leone tomorrow, at the El Wak Stadium, then take on Senegal at the Accra Sports Stadium and complete the group phase with a game against Kenya at the National Stadium.
Dominic Asabea, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, LOC , who conducted the draw last Wednesday, said that Ghana and Liberia were seeded for the competition due to their outstanding performance in previous competitions.
He said Liberia are the defending champions whileGhana performed creditably at the last World Cup for Amputees held in Argentina.
Asabea said the competition would be guided by the rules of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and World Amputee Football.
