Lagos Lawmakers Delay Sitting Over Creation Of Committees

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday delayed sitting following grievances over the setting up of committees of the House.

Majority Leader of the House, Ajibayo Adeyeye had on Monday moved for the adjournment of sitting till yesterday after Governor Babatunde Fashola presented the 2012 budget proposal to the House.

Yesterday’s sitting which was supposed to begin at 10 a.m. did not commence until the evening.

Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who came into the Assembly at 11.07 a.m. called for an executive session to deliberate on the committees.

One of the lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity said without the formation of the committees, the 2012 budget proposal cannot be approved.

Some of the old members of the House, P.M.NEWS gathered, were not happy with the committees given to them and this almost resulted in fighting among them. Some of them walked out and promised not to attend the formal sitting of the day.
