Tennis Star Wants Dev. Programme For Nigeria
Tennis star, Afolarin Akosile, has called on the sports ministry to put in place developmental programmes for all the games, saying fire brigade approach to tournaments will not take the nation to the greater heights in sports.
Akosile told P.M.Sports at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos that it would be difficult for the nation to maintain its leadership position on the continent in certain games in the nearest future if sports administrators do not find a way of developing its athletes.
“I want to tell you that there is no plan on ground in the country to develop our sports. The only thing that our administrators are interested in is just winning. How will that be possible? It is only when a tournament is approaching that they start looking for ways of winning by all means,†she said.
She said the welfare of the athletes should be the priority of the sports administrators.
