NTF Lacks Vision

Former Nigerian player, Jonathan Igbinova, has blamed Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, for the decline of the game in the country, describing the federation as a ‘visionless empire’.

Igbinnova said there is no developmental programme on ground for the players to excel in the game. He added that the system is corrupt to put in place a good welfare programme for the players.

“There is no good system on ground in the country to develop this beautiful game. There is no conducive atmosphere for the players to get sponsors to play circuits around the world. How do you now expect sterling performance from these boys?” he asked.

He, however, charged the nation tennis body to bridge the gap between the players and the sponsors in the country, adding that without sponsors the game would continue to decline.

Jonathan also blamed Nigerian players for their non impressive outing at the recently concluded Governor’s Cup, Lagos Tennis Championship. He described them as a wasted generation and bunch of lazy players.
