The Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), recently held a seminar to educate students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on how to reduce suffering and untimely deaths caused by breast cancer.
The programme, which took place at the Afe Babalola Hall, was aimed at enlightening students on the perception of breast cancer as a disease that has no cure.
According to the President of BRECAN, Betty Anyawu-Akeredolu, “our mission is to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease in Nigeria, through public education, parent support, advocacy and research.â€
Akeredolu explained further that apart from raising awareness, Jog For Life has been critical in fund raising for BRECAN centre as well as serving as a platform to celebrate survivorship and promote exercise as a healthy lifestyle.
She concluded that a nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign is imperative because early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer.
