The much-awaited new board of the Lagos State Sports Council will be reconstituted next month.

This was made public by the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Enitan Oshodi, while speaking at the finals of the Table Tennis events of the 3rd Lagos Tertiary Games played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

Oshodi said the new board of the sports council will be a deviation from the past as it will consist of people who share the vision of the administration of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola to take Lagos sports to its enviable height.

Also to be reconstituted next month are the boards of various sports associations in the state, which Oshodi said has become necessary to bring life back to sports in the state.

According to him, the reconstitution of the various boards of the sports associations will precede a plan by his ministry to stage monthly tournaments for all the sports in a bid to keep the athletes fit  ahead of the 2012 National Sports Festival which Lagos will host.

The aim of organising monthly tournaments, the commissioner said, is to discover more athletes  for the reservoir of the state.

On the 2012 Sports Festival, Oshodi said “Lagos is ready to host the rest of the federation to a befitting multi-sports events next year.

“Lagos will be a home to all the states when we host the festival next year. Lagos has always been the home for all Nigerians and next year’s sports festival will not be an exception because the competition will be a home away from home for our visitors,”  said Oshodi, who was the Chairman of the Lagos State Table Tennis Association during the reign of the former Commissioner for Sports, Barrister  Opeyemi Bamidele.
