FIBA Africa Tourney: First Bank, Deepwater Ready

Nigeria’s two representatives at the 17th FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women, First Bank and First Deepwater, are intensifying training ahead of the first jump-ball on Sunday.

The tourney will run from 4-10 December at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Speaking with P.M Sports yesterday during their training, Head coach of First Deepwater, Lateef Erinfolami, said his girls are ready for the final showdown.

He said: “We are ready for any opposition.” Erinfolami called for support from their fans, saying that home support will help them in the tourney.

Coach of First Bank, Aderemi Adewunmi, said his ladies are in good form ahead of the African tournament in Lagos.

According to him, “we are battle ready for the championship and I want to assure our fans that we won’t disappoint the nation.”

Meanwhile, University of Lagos International School and Ilupeju Grammar School on Saturday emerged winners in the first edition of the Stay-In School through Basketball Championship sponsored by First Deepwater Discovery Limited, owners of First Deepwater Basktball Club.

The tourney that was held at the Sports Centre of the University of Lagos, Akoka saw UNILAG International School winning the boys’ category as they beat Indian Language School by 16-08 points, while Ilupeju Grammar School beat UNILAG International School in the girls’ category by 06-05 points.

For their victory, Ilupeju Grammar School and UNILAG International School got a total sum of N1m to equip their library.
