The acquittal of the national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal over corruption allegations has been hailed as victory for constitutional democracy.

Reacting to the tribunal’s ruling, the chairmen of Orile-Agege and Isolo Local Council Development Areas, Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo and Alhaji Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye, a.k.a Shamme, respectively said the sanctity of constitutional democracy and the rule of law has again been demonstrated.

The tribunal struck out corruption charges against the former Lagos State governor because the prosecution failed to follow condition precedent before  arraigning Tinubu  before the tribunal.

Adaranijo said: “It is a victory for democracy. I congratulate Asiwaju Tinubu and I know this victory will serve as the needed tonic for him to continue his struggle for the enthronement of good governance and true federalism in the country. I also congratulate the Nigerian judiciary.”

The Orile-Agege council boss congratulated Tinubu, saying  that the judiciary has once again demonstrated its importance to the survival of democracy in the country. “This is not victory for only Asiwaju Tinubu but also victory for the judiciary. We are happy that justice and truth prevail,” he said.

According to Olaleye, the Isolo LCDA council boss: “Truth is sacred. No matter how you try to suppress it, it will still prevail. I am not surprised that Asiwaju was eventually acquitted.

He knew from the beginning that his prosecution was an action laced with vendetta and a deliberate ploy by the government to hound the opposition to submission.

“But thank God that the judiciary has again risen to the occasion to save constitutional democracy and the rule of law,” says the Isolo council boss.

Olaleye commended the ACN leader for his dogged fight against attempt by the government to silence him through fictitious allegations which, according to him, show the desperation of the PDP-led government to break the backbone of the opposition in the country.

“We urge  Asiwaju not to  rest on his oars but continue to fight for the interest of the common man,” he submitted.
