We Can Turn The Table Against ACN In 2015 If…

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria,  Mr. Owolabi Salis, has said that the party is capable of turning the table against the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in 2015, only if its leaders can sheathe their sword and embrace peace and dialogue.

The former governorship aspirant in the last general elections said this in an interview with Political Platform, adding that the party has more admirers than the ACN in the state.

“If you look at Lagos very well, you will find that the PDP has more admirers than the ACN. About 35 per cent of the people living in the state are from Southeast, South-south and the North where our party calls the shots. If we are settled in terms of leadership, we are going to excel.

“During the last local government elections, we made some meaningful impact, despite the paucity of funds, which clearly shows that Lagosians love PDP. Most of the tricks of the ACN during elections are intimidation, rigging and propaganda. Lies which the people are now used to. Therefore, they should expect a tough election in 2015,” he stated.

He expressed optimism that the party will emerge victorious at the election petition tribunal, adding that they have enough evidence against the ACN.

The PDP chieftain also condemned the proposed removal of fuel subsidy, adding that it will have devastating effect on the poor masses.

“I’m in PDP and I don’t think it is all its policies that I should support. The fuel subsidy removal will harm the poor masses. The minimum wage is just N18,000, which some state governors have  refused to pay. For this, I think what the government should have done is to expose and punish the cabal behind the subsidy.

“ Their argument is that the non-removal is creating a cartel and it is advisable to tackle that. Therefore, removing the subsidy will have multiplier effects on the poor masses who are only struggling to pay their bills,” he said.
