Table Tennis: Okoya-Thomas Charges Players, Officials; As Asoju Oba Tourney Begins Monday
As the 43th Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship begins on Monday, sponsor of the tournament, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas says he wants this year’s edition to be better organised.
Thomas-Okoya told sports Journalists during the media parley to herald this year’s tourney at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Nigeria yesterday that he is expecting ping pongers taking part in the week long tourney to raise their game to the bar, while the officials should ensure that all the players are given equal treatment.
“I am happy that Asoju Oba Cup is waxing stronger. I want to see a better organised tourney this year. The players should live up to expectations. The organisers and other officials should put in their best for the success of the tourney,” he said.
A total of 17 titles will be at stake in three categories such as the Junior, Intermediate and the Senior categories. There is also competition for coaches, veterans and sportwriters.
The tourney, which will end on Friday, will be played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
