Coach Dos Santos of Maculosso Clube Desportivo of Angola has blamed his team’s defeat against First Deepwater of Nigeria, in their first match at the ongoing 17th FIBA-Africa Club Championship for Women on the bad state of lightning at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Maculosso’s match against Nigerian domestic league champions, First Deepwater, which started 4 p.m. local time on Sunday ran into the night, a situation that made the organisers of the championship to turn on the light inside the Indoor Sports Hall for good visibility.

Santos lamented through an interpreter that the lightning affected his players as it generated heat on the court that made his players sweat profusely throughout the match.

He said: “It is really painfully that we lost our first match today (Sunday) against a Nigerian side. We had planned to beat them in order to be in a good position to qualify for the semi finals.

“We performed badly because of the heat generated by the light in the hall.”

He also complained that the distance from their hotel to the National Stadium, the venue of the tourney, both in Surulere, was too far, saying they found it difficult to get to the venue of the match on time.
