Former skipper of the Super Eagles, Austin Okocha, has said that for good results, coaches of Nigeria’s national teams must be given long term contracts.

Okocha noted that Coach Stephen Keshi, who handles the Super Eagles and coaches of the Super Falcons, U-23 Eagles, Flying Eagles and the Golden Eaglets need time on their jobs for the country to get results from them.

The former Bolton Wanderers of England captain frown at the short contracts which Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, usually gives its coaches, saying that this contributes largely to the dwindling fortunes of Nigerian football.

Okocha said that long term contracts would give the coaches enough time plans and raise formidable teams that will stand the test of time.

“Our football is now passing through a difficult time which I believe can still be checked if we give our national teams coaches good supports and enough time to build formidable teams for the country. I understand that Nigerians need results, but we should also know that it takes time to put in place good teams, “he said.
