TheNEWS Shape Up For SWAN Cup

Skipper of TheNews Football Team, Tunde Oyedele, has expressed confidence that his team are battle ready to give their opponents a run for their money when the 2011 edition of the football championship organised by the Sports Writers of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos Chapter, tagged Lagos SWAN Cup begins on Monday at the astro turf of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The draw ceremony for the tournament will hold tomorrow at the SWAN secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos, where TheNEWS will know their group opponents.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow draws, Oyedele, Editor of A.M.Sports, said he is not afraid of any team, adding that his players are in good form ahead of the competition.

“We are not playing this year’s SWAN Cup for the sake of just participating, but we want to get good results in all our matches. Though it is going to be tough, I believe I have a solid team that can go places in the tournament,” he said.

“We are not boasting, we’ll allow our games to speak for us.”

It was gathered that at least 12 media organisations have registered for this year’s edition, among whom are the defending champion, Sports Day, SuperSport, SuperSport.com, Compass, TVC/ Radio Continental, NTA and Brila FM.
