Cricket: South East States Set For Chima Anosike Cup

Preparation for the 2nd edition of the South East Cricket Championship for Barrister Chuma Anosike Cup has commenced.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, has been selected to host the championship, which will take place from 25-27 February, next year.

Teams from Anambra, Imo and Enugu States will feature in the competition, while there is move to get Abia and Ebonyi States to produce teams for the championship.

P.M.Sports gathered that Anambra State will produce two teams, while Imo is expected to produce one team.

The University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN Cricket Club, the Champions of the maiden edition, are expected in Enugu State for the championship.

The maiden edition of the championship took place on 27 February this year, at the Government Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State.

The university team defeated Unity Cricket Club of Awka, Anambra State in a highly competitive 25 overs encounter with a run.

The Regional Development Officer of the NCF, Emeka Igwilo, described that the competition was moved to Enugu State this year to encourage other states to have a feel of the action.

Ekulo Group of Companies co-sponsored the 2011 competition with UAC Foods.

Olisa Egwuatu, the co-ordinator of the game explained that the target “is to improve on this year’s standard.”
