Twins Docked For Allegedly Sending Threatening Text Messages
Taiwo and Kehinde Olowoye, both twins aged 24, were on Thursday arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conspiring to send text messages threatening the life of one Mrs. Jacqueline Badaki.
Badaki is a lecturer in the Department of Environment Biology and Fisheries at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Akoko.
The prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi, said the twins on November 14 conspired to threaten the life of the woman by sending an uncomplimentary message to her through phone number 07067779911.
Atandeyi said the message read in part: “It was time to meet your maker. You are dead meat Joycelin Badaki: I know your crib and it’s on blood bath and I will murder you like a dog, the angel of vengeance will unleash death on you soon.â€
The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and Section 86 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against them.
Their counsel, Michael Folarin, prayed the court to admit his clients to bail, saying they were presumed innocent until proved guilty.
Folarin said that reasonable sureties would be provided if the bail was granted.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju granted the accused bail in the sum of N70, 000 each and a surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Dec. 12 for further hearing.
