Former, Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, NSC, Alhaji Ismaila Samaila Sambawa, has said that the sports authority is focusing too much attention on football to the detriment of other sports in the country.
Sambawa said other sports are suffering while football is enjoying more patronage from the government.
According to the politician, there are many sports that can bring honour and laurels to Nigeria other than football, which has witnessed a dwindling fortune in the last few years.
“We need to develop other sports so that we can excel in future international competitions,” Sambawa on Radio Nigeria on Saturday.
The former minister, who expressed his displeasure with the state of Nigerian football said that if the NSC can focus and channel funds to other sports as it does to football, Nigeria will do well in next year 2012 Olympic Games in London.
