Lagos State Commissioner for Sports, Waheed Enitan has described the annual Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship as a tournament that has contributed positively to the development of sports in Lagos.

Asoju Oba Championship, sponsored by Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, is the longest running annual competition in Nigeria. Its 43rd edition was concluded on Friday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Speaking at the finals and closing ceremony on Friday, Enitan expressed his happiness that this year’s Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship was a huge success.

Ganiyu Asimiyu won the Men’s Singles, while Fatimah Bello won the Women’s Single.

Enitan, who was among the invited guests to grace the colourful closing ceremony, charged philanthropists and corporate bodies in the state to contribute their quotas to sports development in Lagos.

He praised the sponsor, chief  Okoya-Thomas, for sponsoring the tourney in the past 43 years.

“We are urging more corporate bodies to come out and sponsor a programme like this that will keep our youths busy. I want to thank the sponsor for his contribution to the development of sports in Lagos,” he said.
