3 Killed In Ijebu-Ode Accident

Three persons were confirmed dead and three others injured last night when an accident occurred along Moborode Road, a few kilometres to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

According to our correspondent who was at the scene, the incident occurred around 8.40p.m. when the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder, ash colour with registration number BV 152 EPE lost control of the car and collided with a tricycle popularly called Keke Marwa with registration number QC 509 KNN.

It took a team of policemen, members of the Traffic Control and Enforcement, TRACE of Ogun State, Vigilance group and sympathisers to remove the driver from the damaged vehicle.

Investigations revealed that the driver of the vehicle, simply identified as Uche, lost control of the car while on a high speed. The car somersaulted thrice and as the driver was trying to escape through the window, he was trapped and his head was severely damaged.

Speaking with our correspondent, a close friend of Uche, disclosed that the vehicle was given to him by his younger brother two months ago.

“Uche sold rice and beans at Oke Aje market in Ijebu-Ode. We were together around 7 p.m (yesterday). His younger brother, Sunday gave him the car in October this year when he came home from London. Uche was still learning to drive. You can still see a Learner tag on his vehicle. From what I saw here now, I believe the accident was caused by overspeeding.

“His wife, Tosin, an Ijebu lady is pregnant and they have three children. They reside at 231,Ondo-Benin road, Ijebu Ode. It is sad. The man has just finished his house and he planned to move there before Christmas but he is dead now,” he wept.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased, an indigene of Enugu State was the first born of his parents and had two brothers.

One of the occupants in the tricycle, identified as Iya Sesan, also died on the spot but her 10 -month old baby boy survived.

Other occupants were a mother with her two children, identified as Mrs Sikirat Abosede Abdul Majeed, Mubaraq and Ridwan Abdul Majeed.

They were severely injured and were rushed to the Emergency Unit of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.

It was gathered that Iya Sesan was returning home from the market at Ita ale, with other occupants when the accident occurred. She lived at 15, Olojabara Street, off Imoru road, Ijebu Ode.

One of her neighbours who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the deceased was selling provisions at the market, but just relocated to the area.
