TheNEWS football team yesterday at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, continued their campaign in this year’ Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, football competition, popularly known as SWAN Cup, on a bright as they beat their opponents, Galaxy TV by 1-0.
Fooball fans were treated to entertaining football skills from both sides, as they tried to outplay each other.
However, TheNEWS were able to establish their supremacy over their opponents in the first half, when the captain of the team, Akinwunmi Ojo nodded the ball into the net, to record the only goal of the match, after Galaxy TV’s goalkeeper failed to grab a long pass from defender,Tunde Oyedele.
TheNEWS have garnered 6 points from their two first two matches. They were awarded three points and three goals for their first match after their opponents,Silverbird, failed to turn up for the match.
TheNEWS will today take on another strong side of the tourney, Supersport who had not played any match so far after they walked over their first two opponents,Silverbird and Radio Nigeria.
The encounter is expected to draw a lot of fans to the venue of the match as both sides compete to top Group C in order to avoid a tough opposition in the quarter final that starts on Thursday.
