•••Enugu, Osun Police Adopt Strategies Against Crime

The Enugu State Police Command says it will partner with neighbourhood watch groups in the state for adequate security during and beyond the Yuletide.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said the command would also engage other security agencies to provide adequate security during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Amaraizu said the command had put adequate measures in place to ensure that the citizens celebrated the Yuletide without problems.

He said that surveillance teams were already on ground, some in mufti, and were stationed in all the nooks and crannies of the state to ensure hitch-free celebrations.

The police have also dedicated telephone numbers which members of the public could call in case of any emergency.

“Our control vehicles are stationed at some points identified as flash points. There is no cause for alarm because our men are on ground,” he assured the people.

He called on the people to be law-abiding to make the job easy for the police.

He urged the citizens to avoid the use of bangers to make it easier for the police to know when problems arose. He explained that such fireworks could create panic.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Yuletide, the Police in Osun State have tightened security network in Osogbo and its environs to check the activities of criminals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Wednesday that there has been increased police presence in many public places and strategic locations in the state capital.

Police sources told our correspondent that recent robbery scares in the state were also a major factor for the enhanced security.

Commercial centres and other areas hosting commercial banks were particularly under the watchful eyes of the security men, NAN reported.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Olugbemileke Taiwo, told NAN that the people should feel safer in view of the increased security and go about their legitimate businesses.

NAN reports that recently, commercial banks in the state were attacked by robbers, leading to the temporary closure of some banks.
