Nasarawa Govt Now To Pay Students SSCE Fees
Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-makura, says the state government will henceforth pay the examination fees of all students to write the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, SSCE.
Al-makura spoke at the Government House, Lafia, when officials of the North Central Zone of Association of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), paid him a courtesy visit.
He said all students who had earlier paid for the examinations would be refunded their money.
“The gesture is aimed at alleviating the suffering of both the parents and the students and also to enhance the condition of the students.
“The effort would as well go a long way to boost the educational development of the state.â€
The governor urged the principals to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their responsibilities and warned them against increasing fees unnecessarily.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the non-implementation of UBE and ETF programmes in the state, saying that a monitoring and evaluation team would be put in place to ensure their proper implementation.
The governor assured the principals that the government was determined to pay all counterpart funds in education and intensify the monitoring of the utilisation of funds.
He said education was the pivot of development in every society and urged teachers to lead by example.
Earlier, the North Central Zonal Chairman of ANCOPSS, Rev. Abraham Samuel, commended the governor for transforming the state’s education sector.
He said the provision of potable water, electricity, urban roads as well as the implementation of N18,900 minimum wage for workers and his birthday celebration in classrooms were notable events.
Samuel said the conference had given the governor a merit award in recognition of his performance in office.
