As part of measures to reduce unemployment among the youths, Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has proposed to establish a technical school where unemployed youths in the area will undergo training on their chosen fields.

Mr. Akeem Omoyele Sulaimon, the council chairman, stated this at the weekend during a stakeholders’ meeting with the residents of the area.

Sulaimon said that the only way the country could overcome its unemployment problem is by going back to technical and vocational works, noting that it was the reason why countries like China, Japan, Korea and some others became world leaders in technology.

He said if such proposal gets state and federal governments’ approval, the local government will soon establish one where many youths will be trained.

During the meeting which was aimed at presenting problems facing the residents of the council before next year’s budget is prepared, many residents lamented deplorable state of roads, drains and other infrastructure as well as inefficiency of PSP operators.

While promising that all the problems will be addressed, the chairman, however, told the residents that in as much as government was striving to make life better for them, they too should also help by paying their taxes, levies and dues, which, according to him, will help government to carry out meaningful development projects.
