High Fees: Mapoly Students Groan

Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Mapoly, Abeokuta, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, have threatened to boycott lectures if the authorities of the institution failed to reverse the hike in school fees.

A student who would not want to be named claimed that a returning student is expected to pay N80,000 whereas the government is said to be running a free education programme.

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, had promised to reduce the school fees but nothing has come out of the promise till now,” the student said.

Another student who also spoke on condition of anonymity said the problem confronting Mapoly students was not only high school fees, poor transportation system was also a source of worry to them.

He said some students missed lectures because of the transportation problem while some were forced to withdraw from the institution because of lack of funds.

The students appealed to Governor Amosun to fulfill his pledge to reduce the high school fees.
