Village Head Denies Parading Himself As King

The traditional ruler of Ibafon town in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Chief Kayode Okunola, has debunked a statement in one of the national papers and credited to Oluwa of Apapa, Chief Mukaila Kolawole Lawal, that he paraded himself as a king and used the title ‘His Royal Majesty’ instead of Baale.

Reacting to the said allegation, Okunola, in a statement, said since he became of the town, he has never called himself a king, neither did he use the title ‘His Royal Majesty’ and wondered why such allegation should be accorded to him.

According to him, the inscription on the front of his palace bore ‘The Palace of Baale of Ibafon Town and not HRM as alleged by Oluwa in the statement.

He stated further that the interview he granted the media while hailing the reelection of the chairman of the council of which Oluwa alleged that he called himself a royal majesty, was erroneously used by the media.

“I called their attention to it and they tendered an apology. It was necessary to correct the impression and put the records straight,” he said.

The traditional ruler also used the opportunity to commend the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, white cap chiefs and members of the council for their untiring efforts in taking the traditional institution in the state to greater heights.
