The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu led by Justice H.N. Ogunmumiji this afternoon nullified the election of Senator Andy Uba representing Anambra South senatorial district, southeast Nigeria.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.
The unanimous judgment delivered by the five–man panel further ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return given to Uba with immediate effect.
The court promised to give reasons for the judgment at a later date.
Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the last April National Assembly election, Chuma Nzeribe, had petitioned the state election tribunal alleging irregularities.
The tribunal dismissed his petition for lack of merit but he challenged the tribunal’s verdict at the Appeal Court.
