FG Needs Courage To Tackle Boko Haram

Senator Magus Abe (PDP), representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, says Nigerian leadership needs “political courage” to tackle the incessant bombings in the country by the Boko Haram sect.

Abe, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

“The Boko Haram issue requires courage on the part of the leadership, and the leadership must adopt consistency approach,” he said.

While commending President Goodluck Jonathan for voting money for security in the 2012 Appropriation bill, Abe, however, noted that without proper monitoring and commitment, the allocation of the fund would not achieve the desired result.

“You must have money to be able to fight insecurity, because whatever instrument you choose, has to be paid for. So, money is important but a lot of other factors are involved.

“For me, l do not know what the Boko Haram sect wants and what they are agitating for,” he said.

Abe also urged security agencies in the country to be focused while handling the issue of the incessant bombings by the sect.

“They need to be focused, consistent and avoid distractions as well as full political support of the leadership of the country and the communities. The Boko Haram issue is a challenge that must be overcome ,” he said.
