‘How Lagos Can Gain From Tertiary Games’

Principal Sports Coach of Lagos State Polytechnic, Laspotech, Austine Jofortan has given a piece of advice to the state government on how Lagos can benefit from the annual Tertiary Games.

Jofortan, who is fondly called Coach Pawpaw by his athletes, told P.M.Sports that outstanding talents were discovered at the weeklong tournament. He believes Lagos would gain a lot from the championship if the athletes are give conducive atmosphere to exhibit their God-given talents.

“I want to advise the state government to incorporate the athletes discovered at the last Tertiary Games into Team Lagos for future national competitions. They should be given scholarships to continue their education. I believe if the athletes are adequately motivated they would have confident to pledge their loyalty to the state,” he said”

Coach Jofortan commended Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for approving substantial prize monies for various winners in different sports at the Tertiary Games. “I must confess that the prize money helped the students to meet up with their needs in the schools. Some of my students used the money won in the competition to complete their projects and to pay for their school fees,” he said.

The coach disclosed that the Tertiary Games was a good preparatory ground for the school ahead of the NIPOGA which will hold at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede early next year.

Apart from winning the last Tertiary Games, Team Laspotech topped the athletic medal table with a total of 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals to beat Lagos State University, LASU, to the second position.
