Basketball: Delta Splashes N5m On Wheelchair Tourney

Delta State has earmarked the sum of N5 million to host the maiden edition of Victor Ochei National Open Wheelchair Basketball Championship in February next year.

The inaugural championship is being sponsored by the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, for his interest in the welfare of special athletes.

The President, Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, NWBF, Bukola Olopade, who expressed his excitement with the plan to host the championship after several attempts, said the championship will help to develop wheelchair basketball in the country.

He said: “This will afford our special sports athletes from all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja an ample opportunity to showcase their talents in a national tourney of this magnitude.”

According to Olopade, the overall winners will go home with the sum of N2.5m, while the first runners up will pocket N1.5m and second runners up will take home N1m.
