Fuel Subsidy: Rivers Labour Unions Plan Strike

The Rivers State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC,Chris Oruge,has asked workers in the state to brace up for indefinite strike that will commence immediately the national body gives a directive to that effect to resist the removal fuel subsidy.

He described the removal as evil and a betrayal of people’s trust.

In the same vein,Chika Onuegbu,the chairman of Trade Union Congress,TUC,accuses President Goodluck Jonathan and Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the co-ordinating Minister for Economic Planning of deceiving Nigerians.

As expected, transport fares have been jacked up. From Rumuokoro to Mile 3 in Port Harcourt that used to attract N150, motorists now charge N250.The black market rate for Petrol per litre is N250 in the Rivers State capital.

Most fuel stations have stopped to sell the product even when they have it.

Onuegbu said: “We must resist this evil policy. We asked for fresh air not suffocation. We voted goodluck, not the bad that has been unleashed on all us. It must be resisted.”
