Former minister of sports, Bala Bawa Kaoje, has appealed to government to pay more attention to sports as the country prepares for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The former minister said that sports is the only unifying factor in the country and therefore be given a top priority by the government.
“Government needs to realise that many Nigerians are interested in sports. That is why government should pay more attention to sports in the country. It is a unifying factor for all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds,†said Kaoje.
Kaoje said that the only way Nigerian athletes can give their best is for the government to earmark adequate funds to sports in the country.
“Government should allocate sufficient funds for sports this year if it wants our athletes to give their best at international competitions. The fact is that Nigerians will be very happy if our athletes are doing well whenever they go for competitions,†added Kaoje.
