Gaya Slams Jonathan Over Sports Budget

Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya, has criticised the government of Goodluck Jonathan for not mentioning sports in the budgetary allocation for this year.

The lawmaker said that it was shocking that no amount is allocated for sports in the budget despite its importance to Nigerians.

“I am in total shock that sports is not mentioned in the budgetary allocation for this year. I was expecting something tangible for sports but I am surprised to see that nothing was allocated to it. It is very shocking indeed,” said Gaiya.

Gaiya explained further that sports is a unifying factor for all Nigerians and should be given a top priority by the government in its budgetary allocation.

“Sports is a unifying factor for all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds. I think government should pay more attention to sports because Nigerians are sports loving people,” said Gaiya.
