Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, has called on the Federal Government to rescind its decision to remove the subsidy on premium motor spirit, popularly called petrol.

In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by its chairman, Prince Jacob Adejorin, the association described as callous the recent increment in the pump price of petrol. It said the attendant effects of the policy, as seen in the acute rise in prices of wheat and total cost of production, will force bakers and caterers out of business.

Adejorin urged government to reverse the policy and tackle other pressing challenges facing the nation, including security, unemployment and epileptic power supply.

“We appeal to the Federal Government to have a re-think and reverse the decision in the interest of the masses of this country and face other serious problems facing the nation,” Adejorin stated.

The association declared its support for the mass action by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, and threatened to stop production of bread should government fail to heed its appeal.
