Mr. Venatius Ikem, the Cross River State Commissioner for Works who was relieved of his duties by Senator Liyekl Imoke on New Year’s eve following a public brawl has been arraigned before a Calabar magistrate’s Court.
He was charged with attempted murder before Chief Magistrate Bassey Edem on Friday at Magistrate’s Court 2, Moore Road, Calabar.
He was charged with willful attempt to commit murder by Police Prosecution Counsel Onen Ina, by stabbing Boniface Ishamali with intent to commit murder. He pleaded not guilty to the one count charge and was taken on bail by his counsel, Barrister Mba Okweni.
The case has been adjourned toWednesday, 11 January.
Mr Ikem was alleged to have attacked one Boniface Ishamali, the personal assistant to Frank Ayade, the elder brother to Benard Ayade, the Senator representing the Northern Senatorial District of aCross River State at a party on 29 December 2011.
He was detained at the State Housing Police Station and charged to court today.
