Muslim Cleric Appeals To Jonathan Over Fuel Subsidy

Prominent Nigerians have continued to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to rescind his decision over removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

The latest of such was made by the Chief Imam of Nawai-ur-Deen Society of Nigeria, Lagos Branch, Alhaji Shewu Majeed in a chat with newsmen recently.

According to him, the current price of N141 per litre of petrol has added to the suffering of Nigerians in the past few days of its introduction.

Alhaji Majeed noted that the spate of demonstrations across the country was not against the government, but wrong implementation of deregulation of the oil sector.

He said it was unfortunate that the Federal Government allowed this to happen when Nigerians are still faced with threats of attack by the Boko Haram sect.

He appealed to government to reverse the price and engage the various pressure groups in dialogue before proper implementation of the policy.

He also called on those in government to show some level of sacrifice by doing away with some of their comfort as their own dues to the deregulation policy.
