Strike: FCT Minister Hail RTEAN’s Decision To Pull Out

FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed has hailed the decision of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) not to participate in the planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Mohammed, who made the commendation in Abuja, thanked RETEAN for its patriotism, sacrifice and sense of understanding.

He said the action by RTEAN has shown that democracy was working in Nigeria and that sincerity and honesty in governance were beginning to permeate all sectors of the society.

Mohammed noted that government was aware of the initial pains that the deregulation would cause; hence it took steps to cushion such effects.

He, however, stressed the need for views to be expressed within the ambits of the law.

Dr. Olufemi Ajewole, RTEAN National President, said the association had directed its members to ignore the call for protest by a section of the labour movement.

Ajewole said that RTEAN pledged the total support and loyalty of all officers and members of the association to the Federal Government.

“We have followed with keen interest the current debate and the Town Hall meeting on government’s policy on the removal of subsidy from PMS.

“We appreciate the bold step taken by government to arrest the menace of corruption and rent seeking in the oil and gas sector.

“We align ourselves with government’s effort at securing the subsidy fund for infrastructure development as enunciated in the SURE programmes.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Chief Emeka Wogu, Minister of Labour was also present at the occasion.
