 Phillip Adegboyega Dada aka Sound Image, a UK-based Nigerian Audio and Video Matketer, spoke with P.M.Entertainment in UK recently about Maketing Nigerian video and audio in London

As a UK film marketer, how has it been?

I sell films and audio so there is nothing like marketing in UK for now .

But we believe that you are the Idumota of UK?

Well, I am a registered marketer in Idumota, Lagos and I’m part of them.

How is marketing of audio and video in UK?

It’s been great because initially we started by distributing audio and video works of Nigerian artistes in UK but right now there is nothing like that because at a point it became an all comers affair and to maintain my integrity I decided to distribute rather than marketing.

Why is it so?

You know when you pioneer something a lot of people will come and want to be part of it. Since I started in 1997 with a T.J. Olaoluwa Film titled Oko Asale I thank God that it has been profitable and right now I’m diversifying into another business, that is, laundry and dry cleaning business.

How did you come about the name Sound Image?

That’s a lovely question. The name was derived from a company owned by my humble self and a friend, Yinka Smart Babalola, now a lecturer in the University of Ibadan. He was known by the name Smart Image while I was using Gboyega Vision and Sound. So by 1998 we came together to form Sound Image.

As marketer in the UK how popular are Nigerian films in the UK?

Nigerian films are very popular in the UK.

How many films have you produced?

I have produced a couple of films and I have co-produced some like Mayowa, Akobi Gomina, Baba Soldier, and a couple of others.

Is Mayowa is a true life experience, because the story line is about a woman who travelled to the UK leaving her husband in Nigeria?

It is a true life experience.

Why did you stop marketing of Nigerian films in the UK?

I’m still in the business but I just stepped aside and do more of selling.

Why is this so?

That’s how people here want it, I prefer to do a solo thing.

How do you intend to cope?

I’m copying and I will still cope.

As a marketer and producer, can you rate the audio and video?

We have many of them like in music such as the works of K1 the Ultimate, King Sunny Ade, Yinka Ayefele, Ebenezer Obey, and others.

Who is the best selling Yoruba artiste?

Wasiu, Ayefele and KSA. Pasuma and Saheed Osupa also sell well. In the gospel music genre, we also have Esther Igbekele and Ajogba Jesu,

How do we see Sound Image in the next five years ?

You should expect Sound Image Entertainment growing and growing; Sound Image Dry Cleaners in the UK, Sound Image Water in Nigeria, and other good things.
