Nigeria: EFCC To Probe Oil subsidy Payments
The Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke has invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to review all payments in respect of subsidy on petrol and kerosene.
This is with a view to prosecuting anyone involved in fraud or over-invoicing.
The move is coming at a time there are allegations of massive fraud in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, especially in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
Activities at the NNPC are usually shrouded in secrecy to cover up the fraud allegedly perpetrated by those in charge of exporting the nation’s crude oil and officials charged with importing refined petroleum products for local consumption.
There has been a clamour for the clean up of the NNPC in the wake of the crippling nationwide protests over the removal of subsidy on petrol on New Year day.
