Athletes Need Motivation —Obajimi

Former Nigerian international and board member of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Gloria Obajimi, has called on government and other sports stakeholders to support young athletes in the country, saying it would help them remain focused in their chosen careers.

Obajimi said it is necessary for the upcoming athletes to enjoy material support from the government and other sports stakeholders in the country, adding that the difficulties young athletes are passing through in the nation are becoming unbearable for them.

“National Sports Commission, NSC, and other stakeholders in the country should urgently extend their helping hands to these young athletes. We all need to rally round them and ensure that they remain focused on the game. We need to support them with training materials and other necessary things needed for them to polish their skills,” he said.

Obajimi said the future of the Nigerian sports lies with the upcoming athletes.

She, therefore, tasked the NSC to give utmost attention to grassroots sports development.

“I want the NSC to map out strategies on how to develop grassroots sports in the country. We need to discover more athletes this year and ensure that they are well groomed for future competitions,” she said.
